British Columbia annually publishes the names and gross salaries of public service employees as part of the Consolidated Revenue Fund Detailed Schedules of Payments, which accompany the provincial public accounts. These are prepared under the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act, first enacted in 2000. This schedule covers core government (ministry) employees specifically.

For the broader public sector, including Crown corporations, school boards, health authorities, universities and other public bodies, the Financial Information Act requires these organizations to prepare an annual Statement of Financial Information (SOFI), while the accompanying Financial Information Regulation prescribes the reporting threshold for individual employee remuneration.

Dataset

The British Columbia sunshine list applies to core government employees, excluding MLAs and political appointees.

The following fields are included in the dataset:

  • Employee Name
  • Position: Job title. (omitted in some earlier years)
  • Gross Salary: Base salary, overtime, bonuses.

Annual Thresholds

The threshold has remained at $75,000 since the inception of the disclosure.
