Legislative History

In 2010, the Nova Scotia NDP government led by Darrell Dexter introduced Bill 115 – Public Sector Compensation Disclosure Act, which established public disclosure requirements for compensation paid by public sector bodies to individuals earning $100,000 or more annually. The Public Sctor Compensation Disclosure Act (PSCDA) received royal assent on December 10, 2010 and the first mandatory disclosures covered the 2011–12 fiscal year.

Dataset

The Nova Scotia sunshine list applies to individuals receiving compensation of $100,000 or more annually from public sector bodies and other organizations covered by the Public Sector Compensation Disclosure Act, including the following categories of employment:

  • district health authorities
  • government reporting entities
  • not-for-profit public sector bodies
  • post-secondary institutions
  • regional centres for education

The following fields are included in the dataset:

  • Employee Name
  • Employer
  • Compensation
  • Position: only provided in some rare cases

Annual Thresholds

The threshold has remained at $100,000 of compensation since the inception of the disclosure.
